A balcony on the Mont Ventoux

In need of vitamin D? Picturesque scenery and poetic accents? Follow the vacation highway down to the South of France, about 30 kilometers from Avignon.

IN THE VAUCLUSE, SEATED ON THE MONT VENTOUX and the Dentelles de Montmirail lies an old fortified village, perched on a hill, dressed with sun-bleached dry stones is the magnificent Crillon-le-Brave. The site, named after Louis des Balbes de Berton de Crillon, also called the “brave” by his friend Henri IV, is home to a 5* hotel of the same name. Like a village within a village, the space gathers, in a labyrinthine fashion, a dozen stone houses, old dwellings from the 17th and 18th centuries, linked together by a maze of squares, terraces, galleries, balconies, and alleys.

OLIVE TREES, Virginia creeper and wisteria play the role of wallpaper while the cicadas give the summer rhythm. The swimming pool and the restaurants overlook the valley, offering a breathtaking view of the vineyards, the olive trees and the cypresses. In this singular luxury hamlet, 16 rooms and 18 suites are scattered about with views onto the hillsides.

THE MERIDIONAL ART OF LIVING, with its raw, sunny beauty, is tastefully updated by interior designer Charles Zana in a luxury bevy of light, natural materials (stone, terracotta tiles, parquet) and Provencal motifs. Furniture, antiques, carefully chosen objects and works of art by Naomi Katsu, Kim Bartelt, Vincent Lemaitre, Frédéric Heurlier Cimolai, Niki de Saint Phalle, Claude Viallat, and Picasso, many of them curated by Amélie Duchalard: Maison d’Art but also the family-owners’ private collection, the Parientes, inhabit the place to give character and cachet to these timeless cocoons in which to reread a beautiful story of Daudet, Giono or Pagnol, before giving in to the siesta.

To do

SPA DES ECURIES – Nestled in an old 18th century building, three treatment rooms, one of which is a double, and rituals designed by Bamford, an organic British brand
