Who really likes a show-off? Maybe you seen all there is to see at places meant to see and be seen? Perhaps you’re above and beyond addresses that are overly monumental? Chance are you will love the Récamier, a small, discreet, secret, intimate jewel located at the foot of Place Saint-Sulpice. There where the romantic Paris and the spirit of Saint-Germain-des-Prés vibrate. The atmosphere is particular and special, just like every stroll in the nearby Luxembourg garden, seats taken at café terraces, moments passed in brasseries, steps stepped into bookshops and galleries where all the magic unfolds.
IN THE 6TH ARRONDISSEMENT, full of alleys, courtyards and hidden treasures, stands the Hôtel Récamier, a 4* pocket address with only 24 rooms, half of which offer a rare view of the fountain on Place Saint-Sulpice. Here, guests are welcomed in as friends, invited to wander freely through the floors of this old bourgeois house built in 1918 to appreciate the precious, but far from fussy decoration by Jean-Louis Deniot.
AT THE INVITATION OF THE DE LATTRE FAMILY, the decorator has imagined a timeless ensemble of quiet luxury. In the manner of a private mansion, collectors’ items, works of art, books and souvenirs are scattered here and there, creating an intimate and enveloping setting, even in the bedrooms, where the canopied beds impart the most beautiful effect. Although Juliette Récamier, a woman of letters and socialite of the 18th and 19th centuries, never received visitors here, her bust can be found on each floor, spiced up in the manner of Klein, Christo or Nikki de Saint-Phalle. No doubt that the muse and patron would have appreciated snack time, served daily in the small salon adjoining the height of luxury in Paris, a darling covered, planted terrace.
SNACK TIME – Daily tea-time offered to guests, served in the small lounge.
TERRACE – A hidden treasure, a delightfully lively and nicely decorated garden-courtyard offers a bubble of greenery in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
