Paris, forever cool

If you are looking for an intimate, discreet, quiet address… skip ahead to the next page. On the other hand, if you want to set down your computer and travel bag in one of the French capital’s trendiest spots, you’ll love scrolling through what follows. The Parisian HQ of a collection of “open-house” hotels from England, The Hoxton, a former textile factory in the 2nd arrondissement, located 200 meters from the Bonne-Nouvelle and Grands-Boulevards metro stations, houses more than 8,000 square-meters and 172 rooms!

TWO PAVED COURTYARDS AND THREE BUILDINGS, including a protected 18th century mansion once inhabited by Etienne Rivié, advisor to Louis XIV, make up the complex, offering visitors a concentration of French decorative art rich in cornices, moldings, patinaed staircases, and herringbone parquet floors… There’s no need to go downstairs in your Sunday best to enjoy the many living spaces spread out between glass roofs and vegetative walls, which count the lobby, lounge terraces, cozy cocktail bar, natural wine bar and a stylish brasserie. If the materials (brick, wood, stone, brass, velvet), designer furniture (Gras, Honoré, Gubi…), mottled details and the general scenography sound chic, the atmosphere is more cutting-edge than dialed down, perfectly in line with the neighborhood’s Silicon Sentier appeal.

UNDENIABLY INSTAGRAM-FRIENDLY, the four categories of rooms (Shoebox, Cosy, Roomy and Biggy), designed by interior architects Humbert & Poyet, multiply high modern decorative references and are backed by equally refined bathrooms. Small private gardens on the first floor and views of the Eiffel Tower from the attic rooms complete the options. The only problem is that you may never want to leave…

To do

RESTAURANT – Rivié, named after the site’s former occupant, once Louis XIV’s right-hand man, is open in the morning for a “real” breakfast (poached eggs and muffins, blueberry pancakes, avocado toast, granola, French toast), for lunch, (Thai salad, pink sashimi, roasted vegetables, burgers…), at aperitif time, for dinner and on weekends at brunch time…
COCKTAIL BAR – For a glass of champagne or a cocktail in a faintly British atmosphere, head to the Jacques, accessible by an 18th century spiral staircase.
WINE BAR – A bistro/wine bar dedicated to natural wines and shareable tapas, Planche can be found on the ground floor .
